Final Fantasy XII - 13 - The Ogir-Yensa Sandsea

Overview: After departing Bhujerba, you arrive at the far western edge of the Westersand. The area is just as expansive as Basch makes it out to be, but the greatest difficulty will be a single enemy. The elementals that roam the northern maps in the Sandsea are some of the most difficult monsters in the game, and should you come across any you must make absolutely sure to cast no magick. While normally passive, they respond to magick with silence and high level elemental spells that do well over 3000 damage. Avoid them, and your journey west should be an easy one.

Dalmasca Westersand/ The Western Divide
Enemies: N/A
Guide: Though technically in the Westersand, this is that staging area you will appear in after leaving Bhujerba. There is a teleport crysal and a merchant here, so save and stock up before you head out. There are many paths across the sandsea, but I will first describe the shortest route to the Nam-Yensa.

Ogir-Yensa Sandsea/ Platform 1-East Tanks
Enemies: Alraune
Guide: After a short cutscene, head up the ramps to the south, then west across the platforms.

Ogir-Yensa Sandsea/ Platform 1-Refinery
Enemies: Urutan-Yensa, Alraune, Pineapple (Rare Game)
Treasure: The southwestern section of the area may contain a Bronze Shield.
Guide: You will be met once again by Vossler, and get your first look at the Urutan-Yensa; thousands of which will be standing between you and Raithwall's Tomb. Now you come face-to-face with their terrible might. . . all three-and-a-half feet of it. Their attacks are of little consequence, and with the addition of Vossler, your party will be more like a cloud of death cutting through the Sandsea. The main source of annoyance from the Urutan-Yensa is their ability to inflict a number of status effects; including Sleep, Silence, Slow, and the occasional tri-attack. These all fail to be significantly threatening. Gambits with "Ally: any" and the spell or item to deal with the aforementioned status effects are highly recommended.
The Western end of this map has 3 exits: the southernmost of which leads to the quickest path through the Sandsea. However, you should investigate the isolated platform with no exit to find the map urn for this area.

Ogir-Yensa Sandsea/ Platform 1-South Tanks
Enemies: Urutan-Yensa, Alraune, Wyvern
Treasure: The area may contain a Spear and a pair of Gauntlets.
Guide: This east-west line of tanks has an uncovered span of walkway stretching to the south. Flying between these southern platforms is a wyvern-- a troublesome enemy who cannot be hit with melee attacks. Equip ranged weapons and the newly acquired Water spell (the wyverns here are noticeably weak to the water element). These southern platforms, as well as most other uncovered platforms, typically hold large numbers of chests-- many more so than you will find around the main tanks. Though there is an exit heading northwest, you'll want to take the southwestern exit for the quickest route out of the Sandsea.

Ogir-Yensa Sandsea/ South Tank Approach
Enemies: Urutan-Yensa, Danbania, Bull Chocobo (Trophy Game)
Guide: Head down off the tanks onto the desert floor. Continue west into the next area.

Ogir-Yensa Sandsea/ Yensa Border Tunnel
Enemies: N/A
Guide: This is your first encounter with Dyce; a merchant who is also travelling west through the Sandsea. If you missed Cura and Raise in Bhujerba, get them now. You can sell your loot and use the teleport crystal also on this map before heading into the Nam-Yensa, or you can head back east and north to explore the more dangerous sections of the Ogir-Yensa Sandsea.

Ogir-Yensa Sandsea/ Central Junction
Enemies: Urutan-Yensa, Fire Entite, Alraune, Speartongue
Treasure: The area may contain a Sallet and a Sash.
Guide: When the weather is clear, this map is home to fire entites. As I said above, USE NO MAGICK IN SIGHT OF THE ELEMENTAL. Should the elemental become aggressive, make no attempt to fight it! This map also has an entrance to the Zertinan Caverns, an area with some enemies that will be twice your current level. I would not recommend entering at this time.

Ogir-Yensa Sandsea/ East Junction
Enemies: Urutan-Yensa, Alraune, Yensa, Speartongue
Treasure: The area may contain a Killer Bow, Handaxe, Chopper, Mace, Zwill Blade, Spear, Capella, or Cypress Pole.
Guide: This map is northwest of the Platform 1-Refinery. It has a significant uncovered tank structure to the north with a wyvern flying about, and yet another entrance to the Zertinan Caverns on the eastern desert floor.

Ogir-Yensa Sandsea/ Primary Tank Complex
Enemies: Urutan-Yensa, Alraune, Salamand Entite
Treasure: The area may contain a Ringmail, Iron Helm, Iron Armor, and Mage Masher.
Guide: This is a deadly map made up of blind corners, around which a fire entite will often be lurking. When exploring this map, I would either turn off any magick gambits or stay in flee mode to avoid aggravating any unseen elementals nearby. If you do anger an entite, it can be very difficult to escape. The exits are all on the southern end of the map; so if you are fleeing danger, head that way.

Ogir-Yensa Sandsea/ Platform 2-Refinery
Enemies: Urutan-Yensa, Danbania, Alraune, Urutan-Exile (Rare Game)
Treasure: The area may contain a Bronze Shield, Horned Hat, Wizard's Hat, Armguard, and Battle Harness.
Guide: This map connects to the Nam-Yensa Sandsea. On the northern end, it has an uncovered section of platforms with a good number of chests. From this map you can enter the Primary Tank Complex, the Central Junction, and the Platform 1- South Tanks.
When you are done exploring the Ogir-Yensa, continue west into the Nam-Yensa.
