Welcome!

I'm Mr. 24 and I write guides for video games. I recommend clicking on the Table of Contents for the game you want, or using the Magic Search Box, rather than sifting through the posts for the one you need.

Enjoy!

Final Fantasy XII - 33 - The Great Crystal

Overview: Writing a guide for this area is...troublesome to say the least. The Great Crystal has no real map, instead you get a sketch of the exterior of the Crystal, and a point that gives you an approximation of where you are. On top of that, most of the areas are intentionally similar, and finally the areas are all named in code, and all of the names are somewhat similar. Thankfully, at this point in the game, you will not be exploring the entirety of the Great Crystal, which is extensive to say the least. I must concede to those who have come before me: Here, you can find an expertly drawn map by Lucleonhart @ Gamefaqs. It makes sense of this troublesome area, and is a great help.

The Great Crystal/ A Prama Vikaari
Guide: You begin here when you warp in from Giruvegan. Gate Scorpio is located here, as well as two pathways leading out of the area (all of these pathways begin invisible, but appear with a bang when approached.) If you consult our useful map, you'll see that one exit leads to the device that opens Gate Scorpio, but in truth, this cannot be done yet. So ignore all of the map areas above Gate Scorpio, and concern yourself with the lower areas. Take the exit away from Gate Scorpio.

The Great Crystal/ Kabonii Jilaam Pratii'vaa
Enemies: Ose
Treasure: The chest here may contain a Knot of Rust, or a Black Mask, however your odds are poor without the Diamond Armlet, with the Diamond Armlet, you have a 90% chance of getting the Black Mask. Once this chest, or any chest in the Great Crystal is opened, they will not respawn.
Guide: Make sure to use Float to get the chest, and watch out for the Hell Blaster from the Ose, it hits you with nearly every negative status effect. Head out of here on the only other path besides the one you came in on.

The Great Crystal/ Kabonii Jilaam Avaa
Enemies: Ose
Guide: Not much to do here, just more Ose looking to deplete your supply of Remedies. Head on to the next area.

The Great Crystal/ Dha Vikaari Bhrum
Guide: Use Way Stone VII to reach the next area.

The Great Crystal/ A Vikaari Kabonii
Guide: You appear with three paths leading away from this platform, and Way Stone VI behind you. Take the path that is left of the party when they appear in the area. On our helpful map, you want to head towards the Cancer Gate Stone.

The Great Crystal/ Sthaana Cancer
Enemies: Mythril Golem
Guide: Defeat the Golems and activate the Cancer Gate Stone, then leave on the path you didn't come in on.

The Great Crystal/ Bhrum Pis Avaa
Enemies: Ose
Treasure: The chest here might contain a Knot of Rust or White Robes, but don't open it with the Diamond Armlet on, or it will always be a Knot of Rust.
Guide: Defeat the Ose and grab the chest, then head out of this area on the path you didn't come in on. You will find yourself back in A Vikaari Kabonii, with Way Stone VI, this time you want to head out of the only path you haven't used, the path that, on the helpful map, leads through the Cancer Gate you opened a moment ago.

The Great Crystal/ Bhrum Pis Pratii
Enemies: Ose
Guide: Just head through here to the next area, nothing much to do.

The Great Crystal/ Dha Vikaari Trahk
Guide: Here you'll find Way Stone V, make use of it and head to the next area.

The Great Crystal/ A Vikaari Bhrum
Guide: You'll find Way Stone IV here, as well as the Pisces Gate and two paths leading away from it. Take the path that is directly across from the Pisces Gate to the next area.

The Great Crystal/ Trahk Jilaam Praa'dii
Enemies: Mom Bomb
Treasure: The treasure here might be a Holy Lance, or a Knot of Rust. With the Diamond Armlet, it's always a Knot of Rust. The Holy Lance is a great weapon, and if you fail to get it, it might be worth reloading to try again. Or, you could leave the chest alone, and use a Save Crystal up ahead, save, and come back to try it out. If you don't get it and don't want to re-try, you can buy Holy Lances later, in Balfonheim.
Guide: Slay the Mom Bombs, pick up the treasure, and head to the next area.

The Great Crystal/ Sthaana Aries
Enemies: Necrophobe
Guide: Slay the ghosts, then activate the Aries Gate Stone. Afterwards, backtrack to Dha Vikaari Trahk and take the other path that isn't directly across from the Pisces Gate.

The Great Crystal/ Trahk Pis Praa
Enemies: Ose
Guide: Make your way through the Ose to the next area.

The Great Crystal/ Sthaana Pisces
Enemies: Mythril Golem
Guide: Take out the Golems, then activate the Pisces Gate Stone, and head through the now open Aries Gate to the next area.

The Great Crystal/ Dha Vikaari Juda
Guide: Here you'll find Way Stone III, so use it to reach the next area. If you're curious about the other path, it leads back to the area with Way Stone IV and the Pisces Gate.

The Great Crystal/ Crystal Core
Guide: A short cutscene when you enter here. Reminds me of FF IX.... well, I won't say why, as it's quite a spoiler, but if you've played IX, you know why. Head down the path to the next platform, and there's a useful Save Crystal. And, Way Stone I, which will take you on to the next area. Before going though, cast Shell and Bravery on everyone in your party, and equip your mage with a Rose Corsage, or all of your party if you have three of them. Equip everyone with non-elemental weapons.

Giruvegan/ Gate of Wind
Enemies: Shemhazai
Guide: When you open the Bulwark Minas, the battle begins.

Strategy: Shemhazai is a powerful boss who likes magic. Her elemental weakness can shift randomly throughout the battle, so you might get lucky and her element might change to something you have a Gambit for, otherwise reserve your MP for healing. She likes to Silence, but your mage should be protected. She can also inflict Disease, and if anyone is inflicted, use Vaccines. Thankfully, with Bravery you should be inflicting decent damage, but when her health drops below half, she casts Chain Magick, making her magic charge time disappear, and she goes full offensive with Flare and -aga magics. Soldier through and recast Shell if needed.

Guide: Once defeated, you see that she's an Esper! Congratulations indeed. Head through the Bulwark Aeon to the Empyrean Way Stone and use it to reach the next area. Enjoy the cutscene you have earned. Afterwards, use the Tellurian Way Stone to return to the Gate of Earth at the edge of Giruvegan. From here, you can Teleport back to Balfonheim.
